    Default Sgt R.F. Shirley, 1330958, 15 July 1942

    Hi All

Please can anyone supply any info regarding this pilot?

I've just been looking at the Air Training Corps Gazette for June 1942 and one of the photographs in Air Training News has the following caption

"Sergeant R. Shirley, first Dagenham cadet to receive his wings in the R.A.F. was presented with a wrist watch by the Mayor when he visited his old squadron"

Something prompted me to go to CWGC and to find an entry

67 years on it makes one feel very humble and thankful

    Regards,
    Aubrey

Thank you, Henk, for that info

Yet another fatality whilst in training - on Wellingtons in this instance

Quite coincidentally, I've just spent a most enjoyable and interesting two hours with an ex-Warwick pilot so, of course, Wimpeys were mentioned

The occasion was his 90th birthday!

    Kind regards,
    Aubrey
