    Default 31 July/1 August 1942 - 14 OTU - Hampden I L4117

    Hello,

According to Bill Chorley (BCL7/139), on 31 July/1 August 1942, 14 OTU Hampden I L4117, returning from ops to Dusseldorf, crash-landed in a field at Loddiswell, Devon. He gives the following crew:-

    P/O D J Curtin
    P/O S J Walker - Inj.
    Sgt R Hawkes - Inj.
    F/O H G Clarke RAAF - Inj.

    I believe the crew was:-

    J/9340 P/O Donald Joseph CURTIN RCAF (Later DFC & Bar + 25-2-43 - 106 Sqn - BCL4/49).
    J/10012 P/O S J W WALLER RCAF - Inj.
    R/77977 Sgt R V HAWKES RCAF - Inj.
AUS401300 P/O Harold George CLARKE RAAF - Died of Injuries, Knightsbridge Cottage Hospital, 1-8-1942.

Flight, October 1, 1942, pp.377-8 (Cas. Comm. 158), confirms the injuries to WALLER and HAWKES, and the death of CLARKE.

Can anyone confirm the service numbers and forenames of WALLER and HAWKES?

    I know of:

    All help appreciated,

    Col.

    Amrit,

    That's great!

Don't know what it is between me and the LG. Tried!

    Happy New Year, Mate.

they weren't in the LG as they are Canadian. It was the Canada Gazette. And, boy, that's a b**** to use as the scan quality is atrocious and hence results can be very hit and miss.

It doesn't help that service numbers are not uniformily entered - one has to try / or . or a space, as they all got used.

    Anyway, I got lucky :)

    cheers
