    Default Mustangs flown by Luftwaffe

does anyone know how many Mustangs were used by the Luftwaffe.
On 1st Jan 1945 a Mustang with German marking was seen by Len Lambert O/C of 168 Squadron leading a large attacking force of German fighters towards Dutch airfields used by the RAF.

    Hello motherbird,

to my knowledge the Luftwaffe did never operate captured allied aircraft in combet. For their similar design Me 109 and P-51 (especially versions B and C which did not have the panoramic canopy) were often mixed up. I also know some reports of this kind, but they can be disnissed as errors caused by strenuous battle action resp. poor visibility.
In fact the Luftwaffe did operate captured allied aircraft in a special unit nicked "Circus Rosarius", but only for purposes of familiarization, identification and experiencing the individual combat value of these aircraft. Some aircraft were passed on to front units, but only for the purposes mentioned before.
