    Default One for Errol?

    Hello Errol (and everyone else)

While researching the RAF Hunsdon Roll of Honour I came across the Auckland War Memorial Museum entry for F/O John McMillan -
    http://muse.aucklandmuseum.com/databases/Cenotaph/RecordDetail.aspx?OriginalID=29616&SearchID=791622 6&Ordinal=2
    - which has a photo captioned 'King George VI shaking hands with John McMillan (487 Squadron May 1943)' .The identity of the King isn't a problem, but the man he's shaking hands with is a pilot. The CWGC lists McMillan as a navigator.Which one is correct?

Thanks and a Happy New Year,

    Jim.

    Hi Jim,

Errol's book has him down as a Nav, killed on his 10th Op. His pilot is P/O Raymond George Cuthbert. As I guess you know both are buried at Brookwood Cemetery.
I am sure Errol will supply you with more detail.

All the best for the New Year,

    John.

    Jim,

Neither man shaking hands with the King would appear to be J D McMillan.

    Thanks Errol and John.

They're nice photos,a shame they're not captioned correctly.

    Jim,

I have a much better scanned image of the last picture with the King shaking hand as well as one taken just after with the Queen inspecting the same row of men if these are of any use to you. I have a couple of other photographs which may include J.D. McMillan.

    Hi Jim,

"Image 3: King George VI shaking hands with "an unknown New Zealander" (487 Squadron May 1943)"

The unknown is Sgt. Bob Fowler, RNZAF.

    Regards,
    Christian
