Hi, sorry to jump into this posting.
Is Henk, or anyone, able to say which aircraft one F/O A R H Maynard RAFVR (117995) was killed flying with 185 Squadron on 22nd November 1942. He is on the Malta Memorial which suggests he may have been lost flying over the Med on this date.
He was another of my local lads killed flying and although the CWGC database have his parents as living in Ebberston, Yorkshire he is actually on the neighbouring village of Allerston's War Memorial.
The then Sgt Maynard had a minor mishap in Spitfire N3236 at Catterick on 13th September 1941 with 122 Squadron.
Thanks in advance, regards Rich Allenby
Rich,
Maynard was shot down by a Bf109 over Sicily flying No.185 Sqn. Spitfire VbT EP696.

Rich,
What was the mishap 13-9-1941 at Catterick ? Serial went to 2826M December 1941.
Regards,
Henk.
Col, very many thanks, much appreciated as ever,
Henk - it was N3236 but the aircraft can't have been fully repaired after Maynard overshot at Catterick on 13th September 1941, as you say went to an instructional airframe in December 1941.
Thanks again, Rich
Thanks Rich. What was Maynard's rank 13-9-1941 ?
Henk.
Rich,
Already found the answer. Maynard at that time was a Sgt. N3236 to Westland 21-9-1941 and SOC 17-11-1941.
Henk.
Henk, you beat me too it !
I've not found his service number though before his commission. It must be split over two lines in the London Gazette for his commission or something like.
cheers Rich
