    Default 1699 HCU Oulton

I was wondering if anybody might be able to help me. Is there an Operational Record Book/Diary for 1699 HCU while they were at RAF Oulton surviving?

I am trying to find out more about the unit during 1945, and was wondering if there would be such a document at the PRO.

    Any help would be great.

it doesn't look like it, a search on the NA website using the words Heavy Conversion in the AIR series of documents only brings up the following HCU's:

    1332
    1651
    1673
    1679
    1584
    1654
    1665

However there is a Station ORB for RAF Oulton for the period May 44 to Sept 45 under Air 28/606 if that is any good to you.

    Regards

    Default 1699 Flight

    Hi Johnnie

All I managed to find in my 214 Sqn research was:

    Air 14 / 1070 and Air 14/1071
"Organisation of British and USAAF Fortress and Liberator Squadrons and 1699 Training Flight"
    (December '43 to Nov '44)

I don't actually know what these files contain as I didn't actually get round to ordering them up. I suspect that they won't be what you're after as I'm sure they won't be anything like an ORB, but it was the only reference that I managed to find. 1699 also seems to have been known by a number of slightly different titles.

Hope this helps. Please do let me know!

    Thanks

    Ian

Many thanks for the information. I had carried out a quick search and hadn't found anything for 1699 but through a fresh pair of eyes might find something.

Thanks again for looking. I'll try the Oulton log to see if anything comes up.

I always think that TNA search engine is too picky and whilst I can not see an ORB for 1669 HCU, a search in 'Air' series using the word 'conversion' brings up every other CU!
