    Nowt in Cummings.

    But did find this:

    http://www.24sqnassociation.royalairforce.net/Downloads/24iss9.pdf
    (page 15)

"If anyone has any information surrounding the crash of No24 Squadron Wellington on the afternoon of 3 December 1943 at Standon, Herts, I would be very grateful to hear from them. The pilot of the aircraft was F/O R G Warmington, who was killed along with the rest of the crew, with the exception of two ground crew, who were on board at the time. I understand that the aircraft was on a flight test, when it suffered engine trouble, and crashed into a wood near the village of Standon. I am about to investigate the crash site, and any further background information would be very welcome."

    So a Wellington number.

    Dennis/Amrit,

    Thanks for your help.

No.24 Sqn operated Wellingtons N2875, N2990 & P2522. My AB Registers are too antiquated to be of any use.

It is coming together Col. As I am sure you got from CWGC, they are all 24 Sqn and Ware is the right office for the registration of deaths at Standon,Hertfordshire and we now know it was the crash site for a Sqn Wellington.
My AB Serials have a date of 1996 and Cover P1000-R9999.It has P 2522 as SOC on 10.3.43,last "owner" 24 Sqn

    Gents,

After moaning about my 'Ancient' AB Registers, I decided to take a look anyway.

    Wellington IA N2906

    38/214/RAE/5 BATF/24

Crashed in forced landing, Dossetts Farm, Herts 3.12.43

Maybe I'll hang on to them for another decade!

Thanks for your help troops. You particularly 'A', I was thinking along the lines of a Dakota!

    Default No 24 Squadron 3.12.43

I have just found the discussion re Wellington 1A N2906 - crashed Dossetts Ferm Hert 3.12.43 due to engine failure.

I am son of the pilot - F/O Rowland George WARMINGTON RAFVR who was one of the crew killed, and was born in 1944 so never knew my father.

I have some formal and informal info relating to crash, which I am willing to provide if of use to your research, and would be grateful to hear of any facts or information you may have found re the crash or service info concerning the crew.

Living in Australia makes research other than on the net difficult.

    Hope to hear more

    Hello Chris,

    Welcome to the forum.

I posted the original query on the 24 Sqn loss on 3-12-1943.

I have no further information on this loss. I have the gazetted information on your father, and I know that he enlisted in the UK sometime between April-May,1940. Other than that, I have very little on him or the other crew. One curiosity was the fact that I could find no information at all on 54094 P/O (Nav.) Thomas Leslie FORD RAFVR, in the London Gazette.

Maybe you could post some your information here. The names of the two surviving members would be of interest.

Have you had any contact with a David Ashley?

    Col (also from OZ).

    Dennis,

Thanks for the info on Ford. The reason I could not locate anything on the bloke, is that I cut my search off at 31-12-1943.

    Col.
