    Default 421206 - Unaccounted airwoman and airmen - 6-12-1942

    Looking for info (cause of death, death registration) of following Air Force persons:

    F/Lt (Airbomber/Instr.) Norman A. BUTCHER - 66008 - KOAS - death registered Wantage, Berkshire.

    LAC Arthur COONEY - 970988 - age 23 - not found in Flight archives - death registered Buckrose, E.Yorkshire.

    AC1 Leslie KING - 1220226 - age 36 - not found in Flight archives - death registered Greenwich, London.

    Sgt (Pilot) Philip P. MORTIMORE - 1334708 - KOAS - death registered King's Lynn, Norfolk.

    Section Offr (WAAF) Vera ROWSON - 254 - not found in Flight archives.

    Proposed aircraft loss:
    Hurricane I - P3855 - 55 OTU - flew into high ground Irving Farm, 2 miles S of Langholm, Dumfries.
    Master II - W9014 - RAFC - crashed in forced landing Barkston Heath.
    Master II - AZ589 - 17 (P)AFU - flew into ground North Wooton, Norfolk
    (possible 'candidate' for Sgt Mortimore ?).

    Info on surviving crew also very welcome.

    DEATHS - ON ACTIVE SERVICE.

    ROWSON.- On Dec. 5, 1942, died on active service. Vera ROWSON, Sec. Off., W.A.A.F. Funeral at Jewish Cemetery, Alyth Gardens, Golders Green, to-morrow (Wednesday). at 3 p.m. Memorial service at Berkeley Street Synagogue Annexe at 5.30 p.m.

    The Times December 8, 1942.

    WOMEN'S AUXILIARY AIR FORCE - DIED ON ACTIVE SERVICE.

    Master II - AZ589 - 17 (P)AFU - flew into ground North Wooton, Norfolk

    No.17(P)AFU ORB:
    Two pupil Sgt pilots crashed in Master II Aircraft AZ589 near Kings Lynn. Sgt N Mortimore was killed and Sgt E T Smith seriously injured.

    To add loosely some other info for 6 Dec 42

    F/O D A Crowther 20 killed in Harvard AT9 serial 41-12044 together with USAAC private

    Sgt P P Mortimore 21 killed in Harvard AZ589 as stated above (RCAF co-pilot injured)

    Sgt Jan J Minge 22 Polish Air Force killed in Oxford P1867

    Sgt E L Williams 23 and Sgt E T Aitkins 20 RCAF killed in Battle 2070 of 8 B&GS 5 miles east of Lethbridge.

    Not sure how or who this helps but there you are!

    Crowther's name is registered in Bullock County, Alabama for 6 dec 1942, and also the name Fred F Rollins, who may be the USAAF man.

    Must be Pvt Fred F Rollins 14165070 Cleveland County, North Carolina, Died Non battle
