    Default LAC Girard, RCAF

I'm helping one of my web site readers to track down some info on a former RCMP member who died in RCAF service.

Can anyone confirm that LAC Joseph O.R.E. Girard, RCAF R/254410, was killed in the crash of Bolingbroke 9871 from 10 B&GS in October 1944? We have the CWGC info on this gentleman, but it does not list a place of death.

Also, does anyone have any info on an LAC Yves Girard of the RCAF? There is a possibility that this may be a nickname for Joseph Girard, or it may be a different individual.

    Hi Bill,
Looks like it was one of his many first names:

    Toronto Star, 11 Nov 1944
    Canada - KOAS
Girard, Joseph Odon Rodolphe Eloi Yves, LAC, Moosomin, Sask.

I searched ancestry.ca and was surprised to find so many Girards with a Rodolphe, Eloi or Yves in their names (almost everyone in Quebec had a first name of Joseph) but they are all from Quebec and that is where he is buried, although it says he was from Moosomin, Sask. (You could try contacting the library for a lookup in the local paper: The Moosomin World-Spectator is the oldest weekly newspaper in Saskatchewan. )

St. Gabriel de Brandon is west of Trois Rivieres - but you knew that!

Dakota should be able to help with this one.

" They Shall Grow Not Old" confirms that LAC Girard & P/O L.B. Armstrong were killed Oct.28/44 on a gunnery exersize when Bollingbroke #9871 crashed in a woods 4 miles south-west of the aerodrome at Mount Pleasant.
