    Default 16 Sqn

Looking at my Sqn book it would have been a Lysander II and they would have been flying out of Bertangles, France from where they moved to Lympe on May 19 1940!!!!! They moved there in April 1940 where the German attack during May resulted in a few days operational flying before the a/c were withdrawn to Lympe whre they flew occasional reconnaissance and supply dropping missions until June when they began coastal patrols.

Another unlucky family losing two sons. If you are a relative would you be interested in 75 Sqn Assn if you are not already a member?

According to an unofficial Squadron History, 16 Sqn was ordered to pull out of Bertangles on 19 May but before the aircraft left all available pilots were ordered to collect several other Lysanders from Glissay airfield. At least 4 Lysanders each with 2 pilots on board flew to Glissay but arrived just as the airfield was being attacked by a large number of ME109s. The Lysander piloted by Paddy Reed with 'an Australian Pilot officer' in the back was shot down and crashed on the edge of Glissay airfield.
