    Default F/Sgt Terken - 2 Squadron

Can somebody tell me what happened to F/Sgt Pierre Terken from 2 Squadron ? He was killed on 8/7/1944 and he is buried in the Cambridge cemetery. Thanks in advance.

I cant tell you details about your particular person but 2 were flying out of Gatwick at that point (maybe he was on a training flight to be buried in Cambridge?) and they were using Mustang II at that point. I am sure that the F540 or one of the very knowledgeable people on here will fill in more gaps.

    Hello Régis,

In "Second to None" by Hans Onderwater, the roll of honour states F/S P.J.L. TERKEN was a ground staff.

No mention on him in the main body of the book. I have samples of the Squadron ORB, but unfortunately not July 1944.

    Cheers

    His death is registered in:

    Registration district: Oundle
    Inferred County: Huntingdonshire
You could order his certificate online from.

    www.gro.gov.uk
    Reference numbers are:
    Volume: 3b
    Page: 197

His parents being Belgian I don't think he will be listed in the RAF Casualty lists in say Fligth magazine

There is nothing in the 2Sqn ORB about F/Sgt Pierre Terken. Actually on 8/7/44 2Sqn were based at Odiham. Perhaps there is something in the RAF Odiham ORB?

Acknowledging this is a late reply to this thread, whilst checking the Wittering ORB's for Jul '44 for the same individual . . . .

" . . . 1210. A Beaufighter a/c from Cranfield, Pilot F/Sgt Terken - which had been diverted to Wittering with one engine on fire, crashed approximately two miles west of Collyweston owing to one wing falling off. The Observer, F/O Hamilton bailed out unhurt, but the Pilot was killed. . . "

This was the first fatal accident on this particular day, as at 2200 that night, two Dakota's from Spanhoe intending to drop Polish Paratroops at Wittering collided with tragic results over the nearby village of Ketton

    Hope this helps?
