Looking for details of the fatal accident at RAF Agartala 17 May 1943 involving Beaufighter EL342 of 27 Squadron. The pilot was F/Sgt John Bedford Norman (1208527). I have all his details from CWGC regarding burial, family, etc. but if any one has access to the Squadron 540s for further information regarding the crash, I would be grateful.

    Thanks in advance,

    Hello LXXIV,

Two crews(of No.27 Sqn) were lost during May (1943). On the 17th, Sgts Norman and Perris* crashed in Beau EL342 three miles short of Agartala runway and were both killed in the explosion as the aircraft fuel tanks ruptured.

    * 1258149 Sgt (Nav./W.Op.) Leonard Raymond PERRISS RAFVR

Sgts Norman and Perriss are both listed in Flight, August 5, 1943 (p.166), as: Killed on Active Service.

Col Bruggy, many thanks for the swift response, excellent stuff which will fill in details in the family history. J B Norman was my wife's cousin.
    Best regards,
