    Default 421228 - Unaccounted airmen - 28-12-1942

    What were the places of death registration for:

    A - Died on active service:
    LAC Gilbert BAYLEY - 1164594 - age 22, and
    Cpl Frank HEPWORTH - 1306813.

    B - Not found in Flight archives:
    P/O Edward C. DOWARD - 131764;
    AC2 Roy K. TAMS - 1816111, and
    AC2 Aubrey G. TAYLOR - 1457016.

    C - Proposed aircraft losses:
    Defiant I - T4116 - 2 AGS - crashed in forced landing Wester Dalziel, near Dalcross, Inverness.
    Hudson III - V9029 - 1404 Flt - overshot landing at St.Eval.
    Oxford I - V3397 - 2 FIS - crashed on landing Fordoun.
    Spitfire V.A - R6759 - 794 Sqn - flew into ground Yeovilton (can't find an FAA casualty).
    Master II - EM295 - 5 GTS - crashed on take-off Shobdon.

    The crew onboard V3397 were Flight Lieutenant Frank Horatio Gledhill RAFVR and Sergeant Andrew MacGregor Wyllie RAAF.

    Hi Henk,

    28-12-1942

    Lockheed Hudson III V9029 1404flt RAF St Eval. Overshot landing and ran into a ditch.

    as there is no mention of injuries or death I suppose the crew was safe.

    P/O Edward C. DOWARD - 131764; DOAS in March 11th magazine. Scanned as P/O. E. C. Dowaril; Dowards name is just below Bayley's on the page!! Don't forget to scan around the pages.

    I have tried to get at the 2 AGS ORB twice in the last two months and on both occasions I have been unable to view it as it on loan to a government department. Next time I might actually ask which department and when they are going to give it back and why can they not use a digital camera like the rest of us.

    There are no casualties recorded in the Defiant File, but that doesn't mean there weren't any.

    Australian archives have WYLLIE and GLEDHILL (listed as SLEDHILL) on Oxford EB781 of 2 FIS; crashed in forced landing Inglismaldie Castle, near Edzell, Kincardineshire.
