    Default RAF Iraq Levies

Found on Italian war cemeteries personnel where to their names has been added "RAF Iraq Levies". (F.i. Bari War Cem.: Cpl HORMIS DANIEL - 4750 - 19-10-1944 and Private ZAIA ENWIA - 1083 - 15-10-1944). Request clarification.
    Regards and thanks,
    Henk.

    Default RAF Iraq Levies

    Hello Henk,

Your input gave me a lead to 1st Parachute Company. From there I came a step forward with an answer of your question. The story and burial of Pte Zaia Enwia.

Thanks Finn for the link. Very interesting subject. Deleted the "Iraq Levies" from my unaccounted file as they were paratroopers and no airmen.

    Henk.

though not wanting to influence the criteria for your research I would like to point out that the "Iraq Levies", properly known as the "Royal Air Force Levies (Iraq), were always under RAF control and were the equivelant of the RAF Regiment in role.

There was also a parachute unit of the RAF regiment called Celyforce - though they never went into action as had been intended.
