Thank you, gentlemen, for your time and help.

In regard to Kevin's post concerning 582 Squadron, I think this aircraft may have been lost on the 29th of October, not the 28th.

Two further attacks were made on Walcheren by the RAF after Ramrod 1349, one on 29 and the other on 30 October. Considering, therefore that (i) the take-off time from Little Staughton was 11:45, but the T.O.T. for Ramrod 1349 was 10:15-11:45, and the participating escort fighters were back in the UK around 12:00, and (ii) the data provided in the Roll of Honour for Little Staughton states that each man "Died Sunday 29 October 1944", I feel it unlikely that 582 Squadron's loss was attached to Ramrod 1349 to Walcheren on 28 October.

Whilst I don't have the details for the Walcheren atacks of 29 and 30 October, I think on the weight of it that it was more likely that 582 Squadron was lost on the 29 October raid. However, no criticism is intended, Kevin. On the contrary, I appreciate your input, as you've helped me to sift through all the available evidence and data, and establish the facts.

Thanks again Bill, David, Dick, Henk and j.j.s. for all your posts and thoughts, which are most appreciated and have - once again - provided me a full answer to my query.

    Regards
    Steve

The 582 loss was on the 29th according to the Squadron ORB.

Thanks Dave; that confirms it, then.

No problem, Steve, my fault for not clicking on to your original post (This forum has all the latest posts "reversed" to all other forums). I saw 582 coming up on a search for crew losses, so checked and found they were tasked with an operation to Walcheren. Obviously as I now know, to keep up "round the clock" pressure... just in case they had been "missed".

    Default Little book of words

    Hi

Cant help with the 400 series sqns but my little book of words says the following

10 Sqn based at Melbourne (presumably LOL not the Aussie one) with Halifax III
35 Sqn based at Graveley with Halifax III
76 Sqn based at Holme in Spalding Moor with Halifax III
90 Sqn based at Tuddenham with Lancaster I, III
115 Sqn based at Witchford with Lancaster I, III
347 Sqn based at Elvington with Halifax III
582 Sqn based at Little Staughton with Lancaster I, III

Seems they spread the load about the country for them! No less a loss to Sqns though.

Since your little book of words does not cover the 400s range of squadrons try the Bomber, Fighter and Coastal lists on the front of this site.
