Default Assistance sought with escort fighter incidents on Ramrods, Oct.-Nov. 1944

    Hi all

In my ongoing quest to build up a picture of the operations 41 Squadron was involved in, I'm seeking some information on incidents that occured with pilots of the escort squadrons that participated in the same Ramrods as 41 Squadron in October and November 1944. Most of these, as far as I can discern, are not due to enemy action and generally involve things like engine failure, R/T failure, poor visibility, weather, etc., which caused pilots to land - or otherwise come down - on the Continent, instead of returning to their bases in England.

I am trying to build up information in the following format: Rank Initial Surname, reason for incident, result. e.g. Sqn. Ldr. J. Smith, engine failure, crash-landed Ghent. Generally, I am not seeking more than this, as it is outside the scope of my research. I've taken as much information as I can from the sources available to me, but need help with some of the detail, please.

Therefore, if anyone can help with any of the following incidents, I would appreciate it very much.

I assume as these incidents appear to be NDEA they will not appear in Franks' FCL, so I would appreciate hearing from anyone with the relevant ORBs, please.

Sorry, I know I'm asking a lot, but any data that can be added to what I have would be most welcome.

    Thanks
    Steve

Hi John, long time no speak, hope you're well. Thanks for your input.

Hi Steve, thanks very much for all of this, which is a great help. In regard to May (14 Oct 1944, Ramrod 1332, Duisberg), the 11 Grp. ORB Appendix states for 234 Squadron: "P/O May safe (Landed near EINDHOVEN due to engine trouble)". I'm happy to send you a digital image of the page if you like to see it. If so, please drop me a line at brew AT clients DOT ch

Thanks for taking the time to type these up guys; most appreciated.

    Steve

Thanks for the offer of the scan but I am happy to take your word for it I guess that P/Off May must have arrived before the paperwork? The 11 Group ORB is on my long list of targets at the NA so I guess I will catch up at some time.

Steve I have been worrying that it might be too hot for you in Brisbane especially when we are so comfortable over here at +4C......
