ROWE, Leslie Henry Thomas, Sergeant (1204922, RAFVR*) - No.1 Mechanical Transport Repair Unit, Middle East, Middle East Command - British Empire Medal - awarded as per London Gazette dated 13 June 1946. Public Record Office Air 2/9668, courtesy of Tom Thorne, has citation.

"Sergeant Rowe is Non-Commissioned Officer in charge of the Equipment Section of his unit which has six important sub stores and the Vehicle Park at Mariut to administer. This Non-Commissioned Officer has worked with conspicuous efficiency in spite of shortage of staff. During the last six months this Non-Commissioned Officer has closed two stores and reorganized the main store so efficiently that the unit has continued to produce the Mechanical Transport Vehicles essential for the Command requirements. No.15 Supply and Transport Column arrived at the Mariut Vehicle Park from Italy and in the subsequent reduction of this unit and the changing of its system of accounting a tremendous amount of work ensued which was tackled by Sergeant Rowe with great initiative and unselfish devotion to duty. The example set by this Non-Commissioned Officer has been an inspiration and encouragement to all who have worked with him."

BURROW, Edgar Whittaker, Warrant Officer (505255, Royal Air Force) - No.298 Squadron, Transport Command - Member, Order of the British Empire - awarded as per London Gazette dated 13 June 1946. Public Record Office Air 2/9668, courtesy of Tom Thorne, has citation.

"This Non-Commissioned Officer has held the post of First Class Fitter since March 1944 and has, from the firrst, contributed much to the efficiency of the unit. He contributed much to the efficiency of the unit. He contributed largely to its ability to produce a maximum number of serviceable aircraft for such glider-towing operations as D Day, Arnhem and the Rhine crossing. He has also made numerous flights in aircraft under test. Warrant Officer Burrow has invariably been chosen to proceed on mass glider flights and, in recent months, he was chosen a Squadron Airborne Halifax for Transport Command duties, a task which he accomplished successfully. He has at all times set a fine example to those working with and under him."

"Squadron Leader Roberts has commanded this unit since December 1945. In October 1941 he was posted to the transit camp at Pollsmoorto act as Assistant Adjutant. Owing to his experience of administrative work, he was eventually selected to fill the post of Royal Air Force Liaison Officer to the Commanding Officer, a post he held until the formation of the Royal Air Force Transit Section, Westlake, where he assumed the duties of Reception Officer. Later, he was chosen to command the unit. He is held in the highest esteem in the Capetown area by all units dealing with the embarkation and disembarkation of personnel. He has also assisted Union Defence Force personnel. Squadron Leader Roberts has worked many hours of overtime in order to cope with shipping requirements, accepting all demands on his time in a very cheerful manner. By his devotion to duty this officer has set a splendid example."
