Default W/O Tom GRIFFIN died 1/10/44

    Hi

I wondered if anyone could help me with his one please,

Warrant Officer 655579 Tom Philip George GRIFFIN
Killed (in Italy) on Sunday 1 October 1944

    Local newspapers (Walsall) reported that

"Tom had over 900 hours flying time to his credit when he met his death when his aircraft flew into a mountainside."

    Many thanks,

    Graeme

    Graeme,
Just to start you off, he was with 4 ADU (Aircraft Delivery Unit) when he died. File on way via email.

While your waiting for Alan's message, note that his CWGC details show he is buried in a joint grave, Ancona War Cemetery, Joint grave IV. K. 18.

Using Geoff Sullivans Website you can begin to find who the others were,
    http://www.hut-six.co.uk/cgi-bin/search39-47.php

LAC D R Saunders 1461544 RAFVR is also buried in it. he is also listed as 4 ADU in the GRO list of RAF dead.

They seem to be the only Allied airmen in Ancona for that date. Both their names are listed as Killed on Active Service in RAF Casualty list 471 in FLight magazines.

Now I wonder how far out I am!!
