    Default RAF loss 12/1/1950 approx

    HMS Truculent was sunk in the Thames Estuary 12/1/1950, there was an RAF aircraft involved with the rescue that crashed and crew died possibly on take off . Has anyone any information on location, casualties, a/c etc? Guessing date 12-15th. TIA Pete

    Google comes up with 12/01/50, and one name so far for RAF casualty,........ 173753 F/Lt Leslie George Harris.

    Took off Kinloss 11.56, circled aerodrome, crashed into ploughed field two miles east of Forres.

    In addition to Col's info, Cummings states that the aircraft was seen to be on fire soon after fire but no definative cause for crash was established though the crew had reported a strong smell of petrol on a previous flight.

    The unit is given as 236 OCU

    I have looked at one page of the Scottish death register which lists the first three names given by Col; the other two will be on an adjacent page. The crash location is given as Tarras Farm O/S ref 27/061596.
