    Default Ventura histories

After your great help with ex-RCAF Seamews, I have a request about some Venturas that appear to have been intended for No. 34 OTU at Pennfield Ridge, but may have never made it to Canada. Can somebody with the A-B books, or other sources, tell me anything about these Ventura GR. Vs:

    FN971
    FN976
    FN978
    FN980
    FN981
    FN982
    FN983

    Hello Bill,

It's a batch of 44 Ventura Is delivered between April and September 1943 -FN956 to FN999). The A-B book FA100-FZ999 gives the following :

    FN971 : 17 Squadron SAAF, engine cut, ditched in Mediterranean 3157N;3116E, 11 March 1944

    FN976 : 500 Squadron, Struck off charge 22 February 1945

    FN978 : Diverted to RCAF

    FN980 : 75 O.T.U., damaged beyond repair in accident, 6 July 1944

    FN981 : Med, SOC 14 September 1945

    FN982 : 500 Squadron, SOC 14 March 1946

    FN983 : Med, SOC 14 June 1945

In this batch, with the mention "diverted to RCAF", one can find FN967, 968, 972, 973n 974, 977, 978, 979. Many diverted to SAAF also.

    Hope this helps

    Merci beaucoup Joss!

FN978 remains a mystery, with no record of RCAF service.

Concerning the other serials you list:
FN968 has no record of RCAF service
FN977 crashed in the US before delivery, but ownership passed to the RCAF before being scrapped

The rest did wind up at 34 OTU.
