    Default Arnaud de Saxcé, OTU53, October-December 1941

    Hi,

According to the book " Le ciel et l'enfer", Jacques Andrieux wrote that Arnaud de Saxcé baled out (safe) when he posted at OTU53 (oct-dec 1941). The dates in the book are not really precise but this accident could take place after the death of JC Berre (FAFL 30.448, 31 october 1941) and the day when Arnaud de Saxcé baled out an pilot of OTU 53 killed after take off.

Does anybody has detail of this accident ?

    TIA

    Hello Bertrand and Dave,

    From Air-Britain aeromilitaria, volume 35 issue 138 (Summer 2009), Spitfire I - final production, Part 3 :
    X4940, delivered 6 MU 1/2/41, 118 Sqn 13/3/41, 66 Sqn 9/4/41, 501 Sqn 27/4/41, 53 OTU 23/6/41. Crashlanded, Wilton Farm, near Llandow, Category B, 15/12/41 (Sgt A.C. de Saxcé (French) OK), recategorised E 20/12/41.

Dave, do you confirm he bailed out ?

Bertrand, next time you come to my home, I'll loan you the full set of aeromilitaria magazines about the Spitfire I production, it lists a number of aircraft accidents (fatal or non-fatal) in OTU, including Free French pilots, which is usually "new" information.

Looking back through my notes I see that I corrected the 'abandoned' to ' CFL' without making the alteration to my database. My apologies.

If I recall correctly X4940 has been the subject of a previous thread. I will try to find it. http://www.rafcommands.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6937&highlight=x4940
