    Default 11/05/40 L2068 Hurricane 79 Squadron F/Lt Edwards

    Hi !
F/Lt. Edwards baled out injured from his Hurricane L2068 after being hit by return fire from an He111 in Belgium.

Is his full name available ? What was the code of his plane ?

    Many thanks and best regards

    From epiberen website: http://www.epibreren.com/ww2/raf/79_squadron.html#1105
    11/05/1940: Patrol, B/F
Type: Hawker Hurricane Mk I. Serial number: L2068, AL -?
    Operation: Patrol. Lost: 11/05/1940
F/Lt R. Edwards bailed out after attacking a He111 north west of Mons, Belgium. Burn injuries.

    From the BoB website:http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/archive/index.php?t-34144.html
    EDWARDS, F/Lt. R.S.J. 33242 Irish. 56 Squadron

Now whether R Edwards and RSJ Edwards are one and the same, I couldn't say. If he recovered from his burns, he could have been posted from 79 to 56 Squadron.
Neither appear to have CWGC entries, so hopefully survived the War.

    Hi KewinW4 and Ross,

    Many thanks for your replies.

Robert Sidney James Edwards is mentioned 7 times in the London Gazette, covering the entire war. In 1941 he was awarded a DFC while flying with 9 Squadron.

    Best regards

    Luc
