    Dear Nick
GT Salmon not in Footsteps by O C-B so must be Fighter or Costal Command etc as Footsteps only lists Bomber Command.
Hopefully Lawrence will have an interesting Repatriation file at Kew.
    Happy hunting

    Hi James

Sorry - you are incorrect - "Footsteps" does not only list Bomber Command - see page 207 - F/L D J Wilson RAAF (130 Punjab) Squadron and F/O K G Slade-Betts DFC (3 Squadron) murdered by Standartenfuhrer Bollenrath, commander of Rheine Fliegerhorst on 8 December and 29 December respectively. Wilson was flying a Spitfire XIV and Slade-Betts a Tempest V - from 125 Wing and 122 Wing (83 Group/2TAF).

    cheers

    Dear Allan
Sorry, I am wrong. I was going by the title of the book "Footprints on the Sands of Time - RAF Bomber Command Prisoners of War in Germany 1939 -1945".
Always happy to accept if I have made a mistake.
As I have mentioned on another thread there are mistakes in this book, as there are in many others.
Never believe just one source especially if it is second or third hand.
Hopefully I will be more accurate in the future.
    Best wishes
    James

This is misleading. The above quoted instance is a case of the exception proves the rule. 99% of the entries are indeed Bomber Command aircrew. Wilson and Slade-Betts are only mentioned in passing regarding a war crime. They are not to be found in the main listing of PoWs (the 211 pages of Appendix).

    Errol,

Thanks for that. I found him in your Shipping Lists (FYT3/591 & 626). He is mentioned in Ross' POW Listing as: 404056 K G Fanssett RNZAF L4/153!

AUS400748 Sgt Lloyd Loris CLARK RAAF, became a member of the "Caterpillar Club", on an unspecified date, over enemy territory. Thus confirming your remarks about the crew baling out. Clark was L6/357 - 144.(This listing incomplete)
