    Default Wellington R1707? June 1942?

    Ladies &Gents,

    Can anyone provide any details of this aircraft, I have failed using the usual channels.

    Hi Chris,

    Air Britain RAF Aircraft says:

    Served 11 OTU, 9 SQ, 57 SQ, 40 SQ, 156 SQ, 20 OTU.

    Crashed on night naxex near Morpeth,Northumberland on 2/6/43.

    Just looked in N`land Aviation Diary by Derek Wallton.

    A/c crashed at Benridge Moor,Morpeth.

    Crew:

    F/O A.T.L. Rossignol. 130612 Aged 31 of USA. Pilot.
    P/O J. Fallon. 139843.
    P/O Adlard.
    Sgt E.Morgan. 1434778.
    Sgt D.E. Faulkner. 1336161.
    Sgt J.R.J. Clarke. 1483604.

    Pilot is buried in St.Mary`s Cemetery,Morpeth. Note: `A local man Mr Joseph Wilkinson saw the aircraft on fire flying from west to east at low level, beforeit ploughed through a hedge into the field where it exploded. Wreckage was strewn over 500 yds and all the crew were dead`.

    Bill Chorley's Volume 7 OTU 1940-1947 records that aircraft as Wellington IC R1701 -U of 20 OTU A Flight.

    thanks for clearing that one up,
    I had been sent a copy of the police log of the day.......it would seem the copier had a typo error (1942)

    At 18.08hrs today, I located the fragmented remains of this aircraft and have a positive site ID.
