    Default 430430 - Unaccounted airmen - 30-4-1943

    What were the places of death registration for:

    A - Not found in Flight Global:
    LAC Raymond GUMLEY - 926961.

    B - Died on active service:
    AC1 Fred HUGHES - 1526737;
    LAC Leslie J. JARVIS - 959219, and
    Sgt (Pilot) Eric SUNDERLAND - 1438862.

    C - Proposed aircraft losses:
    Defiant I - V1176 - 2 AGS - crashed in forced landing Kinloss.
    Auster III - MZ222 - 656 (AOP) Sqn - crashed in forced landing Bards Hall, 2 miles W of Great Waltham, Chelmsford, Essex.

    V1176 was none fatal, the pilot being recorded as 1343937 Sgt R.D. King, and the trainee air gunner as L.A.C. G.W.F. Duckett.

    Duckett is recorded by CWGC as Sergeant George William Francis Duckett, 1817929, killed 17/08/43.

    Hi Henk
    Hughes,21, registered at Uxbridge,Middlesex, he has the service no on CWGC that you have given. In the same qtr is another Fred Hughes, LAC(Pilot u/t) who died on 12/4/43 age 31,registered at Sleaford and E Kesteven,Lincolnshire
    Jarvis,26, registered at Bath, Somerset
    Sunderland,22, registered at Leeds, W Yorkshire

    Duckett was killed on 138 Sqn Halifax JD179.

    Thanks Dick for info on death registrations. Fred HUGHES (Pilot u/t) was killed on RAFC Oxford AB766, crashed Cranwell South.

    There is a 27 year old Raymond Gumeey on the index for Cambridge district. Spelling error on the index it seems, theres a birth index for a Raymond Gumley in 1916.

    By the way henk, I've finally managed to upload the first half of 1944 from teh Flight magazines, service aviation pages!!

    None of the men I found yesterday were as far forward as the 1944 magazine I think. I reviewed all of April 1943 yesterday. I start a new job on Monday so will not have the time to do things as I did last year.

    Thanks Dennis. Just back from short trip into Germany, sorry for the belated answer. Good luck with the new job; do hope you'll find some leisure time during this year to scan the remaining pages for 1944.
