Hello all,
I have received further details regarding T/F/Sgt A J Nicholas from the 165 Sqn Assoc. secretary Dr Peter Newman, for which I thank him immensely, also to Royton on these boards who pointed me in Dr Newman's direction.
I thought I'd share the brief info he has given me - he has also supplied a referral for more info as he could not give me any more information after March 1945 as he was posted overseas then.
Dr Newman advised my great uncle served at RAF Bentwaters flying the Sptifire IXb and later IXe variants, before the squadron converted to Mustang III in 1945 as the Squadron was assigned to bomber escort for raids inside Germany.
My uncle was a member of 'B' Flight, commanded by F/L Barry Gale. I have been given contact details for the leader of 'A' flight, F/L Hedley Richardson, who is still alive and living in Lancs. Apparently he was my great uncle's leader.
I will post here with any further details.
Hi,
I am the granddaughter of Alan Nicholas (dec) searching for information about him both for me and my dad who is his youngest son. We have only just come across this forum and would love it if anyone knows anything.
I am aware he is represented on a window at westminster abbey and also any of the info posted on here. Also aware of where he is buried but there is no date of birth and my dad was only 4yrs old when his father died in the tragic plane crash into Lake Shirley.
Any pointers would be great !
Thankyou
Hoping that either Vige67 or nicholas60 will eventually check their PM's to share their info, but I'm doubtful after so many years. I'm intrigued to find out what his squadron leaders said, and more details about the missions he flew.
For future visitors to this thread, I've collated the majority of information that I've found about Alan Jack Nicholas up on a profile on WikiTree. This is free and can be edited/collaborated by anyone, so I hope over time I get some more info about Alan. The page currently includes all of the 'Ramrod' missions and aircraft he flew, based on the digitised scans of records at Kew.
