405 Squadron 1942

I have recently found this old post in the archive - it popped up in a search for "halifax W1111". Sgt Eric Jackman was my mother's brother and would have been my uncle. Can anyone point me to the "Chad" who posted this notice as I would be very interested in taking a look at the photos he mentions.

Doing some research on my Grandfather (PERCY ROBERT (BOB) SPURGEON from the 405 and 148) and today I discovered a picture he had in his records. It shows a bomber crew, with individual photos and is described as follows:

"CREW OF HALIFAX BOMBER RCAF SQUADRON 405 POSTED MISSING ON NIGHT OPERATIONS OVER ESSEN GERMANY NIGHT OF JUNE 8-9 1942"

Names of the crew mentioned as follows:

Flt/Sgt Will Plant (Toronto Canada)
Flt/Sgt Eric Jackman (Bristol England)
Flt/Sgt T.R.M. Cattle (Toronto Canada)
Flt/Sgt Joseph Fleming (Bristol England)
Flt/Sgt G.R. Montgomery (Chapleu Ontario, Canada)
Flt/Sgt Reginald Holland (Bournmouth England)
P/O D Gordon Morris (St Johns Newfoundland)

Anyone have any information on this???

It's probable he only posted that once on the old forum, he may not have joined this new forum.

I've found a family tree on ancestry.com with a matching name, might be Percy Spurgeon mentioned above, I'll ask them if their the Chad or know some one who might be them!

Have you obtained the service records of the various Canadian airmen?

Thanks for your reply Dennis. I have not done much research on any of the crew though I did find that the pilot was from Newfoundland, a grad of Memorial university and an engineering student at McGill University in Montreal before he signed up. The McGill memorial site has a photo of D.G. Morris.

Ian Brown and Rich Allenby responded to the original post back in 2004, I have sent them a PM asking if they had any other correspondence with "Spurgeon" or Chad.

Hi Chad,

Hopefully you see this. I just came across this forum and was really interested to learn about the photo of the airmen. My great uncle was Gordon Morris, the Pilot Officer. I'd be really interested in checking out that photo if that's at all possible?

I am trying to research him, his crew and their last mission.

My great Uncle was the Pilot Officer of that crew. David Gordon Morris.
I am looking for any information or photos anybody has. Trying to research the crew and mission.
