    Default Spitfire Ia P9562 - 1-5-1943

    Hello all,

Seeking information on an incident (details unknown to me), that occurred at Green Farm, Wheatenhurst (now Whitminster), Gloucestershire on 1-5-1943. It is believed that AUS413570 Sgt Kenneth Henry GODFREY RAAF, and Spitfire Ia P9562 were involved.

I know some of the history of P9562 (from Gifts of War/222, which misidentifies this aircraft as P9652), but the abovementioned incident is not mentioned in :

    http://www.spitfires.ukf.net/p009.htm

Does anyone have any further information on this incident?

    Thanks,

    Col.

    Paul,

Thanks for filling the gaps in the events of 1-5-1943. Yes, Godfrey survived, injured (don't know the extent of his injuries). He had a long post-war career in the RAAF (as O22017), being discharged on 15-1-1970 (on his 47th birthday!). Kenneth Godfrey passed away on 2-8-2007.

    Your comments most helpful.

    Hello Ian,

Extra details always welcome, for which I thank you. Your contribution helps eliminate those nasty thoughts of unauthorized low-flying etc.

    Col.
