    Col,

NZ416115 F/O (Pilot) Ronald Gordon HENRY RNZAF (of Christchurch)
AUS408067 P/O (Nav.) Pierce Joseph KEATING RAAF (of Hobart)
AUS425415 Sgt (W.Op./Air Gnr.) George Alfred JOHNSON RAAF (of Innisfail)
NZ38412 F/O (Air Gnr.) Duncan Macdonald Brownell CHURCH RNZAF (of Hamilton)

According the crew's MI9 reports when variously interviewed 19-24 Oct 43:

took off from Portreath at 1600 3 [not 5] Oct 43. Owing to petrol shortage had to force land on the beach at Tarifa at about 1235. Army soldiers from a barracks about 350 yards from where the a/c touched down took them into custody immediately. About an hour later they were moved from the barracks to an Army mess in Tarifa itself, where they remained until 2200.Then taken by car to a hotel in Algeciras, visited next morning by British Consul. At 1730 taken by car across the border to Gibraltar.

Church & Keating by air to UK 18 or 18/19 Oct 43 and the others on 22/23 Oct.

    Hello Errol,

Thank you for the additional information, and correction of the date. The three refs I consulted all quote 3-10-1943. As a final check, I consulted my ancient copy of A-B's V-W Serials, which quoted 5-10-1943. I mistakenly used that date in my final draft.

Henry had a sister, Mrs E M Hart, living in Mosman, NSW, Australia. Hence the A705* at the NAA, which I neglected to mention in my original post.

The A705's of Johnson and Keating are also digitised.
