    Default Hurricane P3101

    Hello.

I recently saw a photo of a 245 squadron hurricane MK1 belonging to JWC Simpson. It is flying over Northern Ireland the squadron being based at Aldergrove 1941. It has his trade mark joker insignia on the side along with DX-?, but the aircraft serial is P3101. All other photos i have seen of Simpsons hurricane with his joker insignia and DX-? are of a serial W9200.

Does anyone know what happened to hurricane P3101. Was it moved from 245 squadron and were did it go and what was its fate.
    Thanks skyhawk.

    Hello,

The Air-Britain register P1000-R9999 gives two units for Hurricane P3101, first No. 245 Squadron, then No. 289 Squadron. No date of transfer, as usual in these books. Final fate is described as : "engine cut, ditched off Burnt-island, Fife, 8 december 1941".

You should contact the R.A.F. Museum at Hendon and ask for a copy of the movement card (form 78) for that Hurricane, which would give you her different dates of postings, including the Maintenance Units. They should also have the accident card for her loss.

Another forumite might be able to give the pilot's name for the 8 December 1941 accident.
