    Default 430509 - Unaccounted airman - 9-5-1943

Sgt (WOp/Ag) Kenneth H. BATEMAN - 1128675 of 75 PTU (Parachute Test Unit ??) was killed on active service 9-5-1943 and lies buried in the Alexandria (Hadra) War Mem. Cem., Egypt. Can't find a posting for this unit and type of aircraft assigned to this unit.
Looking for info what caused this airman's death.
Regards and thanks for your help.

    Henk,

Don't like 75 PTU at all!

Possibly 75 OTU. Maybe; Anson I DJ284 failed to return from exercise 8/9-5-1943.

    What do you think?

    Default For Dennis Burke

Sgt (WOp/Ag) Kenneth H. BATEMAN - 1128675 hailed from the Irish Republic and perhaps Dennis could be of any help.

    Hello,

Chris Hobson, in his Failed To Return, Part 2, A-B, (p.458), has this to say about Bateman:

Bateman, Sergeant Kenneth Harrison, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, (1128675), Wireless Operator/Air Gunner, 75 Operational Training Unit, Gianaclis, Egypt, North Africa, 09 May 1943, Killed Whilst Flying, Anson I, DJ284, Lost during a navigational exercise, Age 27, Carrigaline, Cork, Republic of Ireland, Alexandria (Hadra) War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt.

A GRO overseas death cert on an ancestry.com family tree for A H E Dew indicates he died on the SS Highland brigade.

Cause of death is cropped but starts with: Coronary.....

H E Boyd is listed as Died on Active Service and has OADU listed on his graves registration form scanned on CWGC
