    Default Crash of 2 Venturas at Pennfield Ridge 21/22 June 1945

    Greetings:

    I have acquired from Library and Archives Canada microfilms C5934, C5936 and C5937 which contain most the accidents from No.34 OTU, Pennfield Ridge. However there are several accidents and/or mishaps I can not locate information on. Two of these accidents are as follows:-

    21 June 1945: "F/O Close and crew went off end of runway on landing. No one hurt. A/C damaged." Trying to determine which Ventura this was and the names for the rest of the crew.

    21/22 June 1945: The other is another unknown Ventura that landed just before F/O Close's a/c. This crash killed the entire crew, namely:

    1) F/O L.P. Gravel (J/2527476) (Pilot);

    2) Sgt. D.H. MacNeill (R/271794) (Nav.B);

    3) F/S E.A. Bladerston (R/257476) (WAG); and

    4) WO2 D.H. McQuarrie (R/219160) (WAG).

    Again trying to determine which Ventura this was.

    Thanks Dakota for the additional information. According to the Nav. of Ventura 2235, seeing Ventura 2199 crash unnerved his own pilot (F/O Close) that they too crashed. I'll pass this information along to him for his records.

    Regards,
    Christian

    P.S. Mr. Charters (Nav. aboard Ventura 2235) stated: "One little correction. My service number is K273336, those of us that were Air Cadets prior to enlisting, were given "K" numbers."
