Default Bomb used for Supermarine Stranraer

    Hi all,

I have seen a picture of Stranraer carrying a single bomb under its left wing.
Could anybody help me with type and size of this bomb used by Stranraers during A/S patrols?

    TIA

    Pavel

P.S. Unfortunately I do not know how to attach a picture...

According to Supermarine Aircraft since 1914 by Andrews & Morgan the Stranraer carried 1,000 lb (454 kg) (either bomb or depth charge) beneath lower mainplanes and eight 20lb (9kg) bombs in bays in underside of lower mainplanes.

    Pavel & Amrit,

The following is from the No.18 Group ORB and gives the actual max depth charge war loads. These take into account considerations of range/load. For Stranraer use London loads.

    Depth Charge Loads

    450 lb DC

    Blenheim 2
    Beaufort 4
    Vildebeeste 2
    London 2
    Lerwick 4
    Sunderland 4
    Whitley 4
    Catalina 4
    Hampden 4
    Wellington 6
    Stirling 24
    Manchester 15
    Halifax 15
    Hudson –
    Albemarle 6

    250 lb DC

    Blenheim 4
    Beaufort 6
    Vildebeeste 4
    London 4
    Lerwick 8
    Sunderland 8
    Whitley 10 or 12
    Catalina 8
    Hampden 4
    Wellington 6
    Stirling 24
    Manchester 15
    Halifax 15
    Hudson 4
    Albemarle 9

    Regards
    Ross
