    Default Unaccounted airman - 26-7-1940

    What caused the death of AC1 Kenneth JONES - 647939 - 918 (Balloon) Sqn, buried Ramsbottom Cem., Lancashire (UK795).

    DIED OF GUNSHOT WOUND The Assistant Deputy Derby Borough Coroner (Mr. R. D. Craig) will hold an inquest on Wednesday on Aircraftman Kenneth Jones (19), who has died in Derbyshire Royal Infirmary from gunshot wound. Jones was attached to a balloon barrage, and was found seriously injured at a camp. His home is at 17, Newtown-street, Eaton Park, Manchester. ...

    The Assistant Deputy Borough Coroner, Mr. R. D. Craig, recorded a verdict that Jones committed suicide while balance of his mind was disturbed.

    Hi Alex,

    Tweddell awarded the DFC for operations in Scandinavia. Canadian newspapers of 1 June 1940 mention four DFCs and one MBE issued to five Canadians on 31 May

    These four airmen rest at Cannock Chase German Military Cemetery, Staffordshire.
    Cause of death ?

    Crew of Heinkel He 1114-H 5J+AH of 1/KG4 shot down whilst mine laying in the Severn Estuary. The aircraft crashed at Longfield Farm, Smeatharpe, near Honiton, Devon. The pilot Uffz Georg Strickstrock bailed out having been wounded landing at Middle Luxton Farm 1/2 a mile from the crash site. He was taken POW.

    JONES, Kenneth - He was serving with No 918 Sqn and committed suicide whilst he was on guard duty.

    JONES, Selwyn - He was serving at RAF Leighton Buzzard when he drowned whilst bathing in a disused sandpit near Leighton Buzzard.

    Presumably Bell died from injuries, as the crash was on 24 Jul 40 I believe.
