    Default HQ Group 60

Trying to decipher service records of relative during WW11.
Already know that he worked in the field of Radar & poss.Signals.& was released as Fl.O.
    Looks like he joined Raf. in 1941 AC2 - RM/RM ?
Believe Group 60 was part of Chain Home stations & think he was at Raf. Bawdsey.
    Would that be correct?
Can someone explain why he would have been Released 9/1/42 then Recalled 11/8/42
to 5(2)A.F.Act 1939 - & again Released 2/9/42 then Recalled 8/2/43 ? This time period actually coincides with the birth of second son & family were moved to Oxfordshire. Can`t think that is the reason!
    72 Wing /Rheims/Chain Home/60 in )ct 1945
    72 Wing /Rhone/Chain Home/60 in Mar 1946.
Does this mean he was in France at that time?
We know he had some French connection around that time.
Have already found Wartime News website on Group 60 (Radar) Fighter Command.
    Love to know more.

No 60 (Signals) Group provided technical and administrative support for the radar chain. No 72 (Signals) Wing was responsible for radio navigational aids on the Continent following the normandy landings, so your man could have been at the Wing HQ, or more likely with one of the many units spread across NW Europe.

I've interpreted a lot of service records of wartime radar personnel. I would be only too happy to look at this one for you and do what I can to interpret it for you. Fell free to email a scan to me at ibrown AT radararchive DOT freeserve DOT co DOT uk, replacing the AT and DOTs with the relevant symbols.
