    Default 17 June 1944

    Hi,

On 17 June 1944 the 611 Sqn, ADGB claimed destroyed two Fw 190s over Invasion area. One of them French pilot Lt. Gouby DFC. Questions:

    1) The position is mentioned as 8m SSW Perniers. Unfortunately such village doesn´t exist. Does anyone know right name ?
    2) He flew Spit V BL472. Is there a chance to add the individual letter of a/c ?

    TIA,
    Michal

This website has it listed as Péniers:

So, to split the difference, how about Périers? It's in the right locale, about 12 miles WNW of St Lo.

    Hello,

My friend Bertrand Hugot, who also sometimes visits this board, has written a short bio of Robert Gouby in a French magazine a couple of years ago. If he hasn't seen this thread, I'll point it to him.

Simon, yes, it must be Périers. Périers-Sur-Le-Dan, 14112.

Joss, I will contact Bertrand by PM.

    Thanks and regards,
    Michal

The one I meant was a larger town/village called Périers, 50190 on the D900 WNW of St Lô, but I'd guess Périers-Sur-Le-Dan may be a better choice!

Just to add to the mix, there's 14160 Périers-en-Auge east of Ouistreham...

    Hello,

On the combat report, the spelling is "8 miles SSW of PENIERS". I confirm there's no such place in the book of French villages and post offices.

The dog fight started 20 miles south of Carentan. I leave it to you to presume where it went from there.

    Salut Bertrand,

Thanks for confirmation of the individual letter what I was able to find in your nice article for Aero Journal too.

    Regards,
    Michal
