    Default GJ Stonhill

    Hi all,

    I'm looking for any details re the service of S/L Gerald James Stonhill (39905), RAF; DFC
    (LG 1/6/45). He was CO 154 Sqn by 3/45.
    Any previous units, other awards, claims, nationality, date of taking cmd of 154 Sqn, etc
    Your help would be appreciated.

    From ancestry.com family tree, I expect this is hime, the surname spelling is distinct.

    Bruce, Your man was appointed to a Short Service Commission as an A/PO on prob wef 5 Jul 37. Posted 5 FTS, Sealand wef 17 Jul 37, and as an A/PO posted to 49 (Bomber) Sqn, Worthy Down wef 7 Feb 38. He was awarded an m.i.d. as an A/S/L wef 1 Jan 45, and awarded the DFC as a S/L, 154 Sqn wef 1 Jun 45. Sources: London Times and London Gazette. Regards, Terry

    Hi Bruce,

    I am out of my home and the books but if I remember well he was CO of the 222 Sqn in summer 1943 when young F/O Smik started period of his victories there.

    When browsing Czech websites I see S/L G.J. Stonhill DFC became CO of Natal squadron in July 1943.
