    Default Sergeant Fred W Edmondson

Can anyone assist. I have been tracing the crewmates of my late father who flew as w/op with 35 squadron from Graveley in 1944-45.
I am looking for information on the flight engineer Fred ‘Eddy’ Edmondson. The only data I can finfd is in Sean Feasts ‘Heroic Endeavours’ which gives “Sergeant Fred W Edmondson. A 35 Squadron flight engineer, he won the DFM after two tours numbering 57 operations. He later flew with the 35 Squadron CO Wing Commander ‘Speed’ Le Good in a master bomber role. After the war he went on to flying boats and fought in the Korean war.”

A little luck, an odd middle name:
Gazette Issue 37088 published on the 18 May 1945. Page 5 of 8

    Distinguished Flying Medal.
    Flight Sergeants.
    2203450 Frederick Worsley EDMONDSON, R.A.F.V.R., 35 Sqn.

Theres no citation in either Fligth or London Gazette.

You will find him buy searching for the names micklethwaite and Floyde, they are mentioned on same page getting DFM's.

And..... thats all i can find! Typical

I'd say, born in Salford district in late 1924, mothers maiden name Worsley. Can;t see a death in Enland or Wales up to 2005.

Someone needs picking up from the airport...

    You could try:
    35 Squadron (contact point) Bill Stevenson, 20 Chapel Close, Saughall, Chester CH1 6DQ: 01244 657902 or catherine.stevenson5ATbtinternet.com

You never know they might have more info!

    Hello paulh.
I know this is a long time since you requested help to find details of Fred. If you still want to know about him, he is my wife's uncle. Unfortunately he is not well so I may not be able to get any details you want, but maybe I can help.
    Let me know.
    Regards
