    Default Medical Facility Abbreviation, 1943

I have a man who was admitted to the following medical institutions with an unpecified illness or injury:

    14 RC Gen. Hosp., 17 May-4 June 1943
    EMS Epsom, 5-11 June 1943
RAF Hosp. Halton, 12-16 June 1943

Can anyone identify the facility at Epsom, please? What was the 'EMS'?

Also, in 14 RC General Hospital, would the 'RC' indicate 'Roman Catholic'?

    Thanks
    Steve

    Steve, Hi,
14 RC Gen Hosp = (probably) 14 Red Cross General Hospital
EMS Epsom = (probably) Emergency Medical Service Epsom

    Steve,
I use to live near Epsom and the thought crossed my mind that it could have been, and I will now use the old word for it, an asylum. perhaps your man had a breakdown of nerves and was sent there, hopefully to recover. The incorrect word comes to mind of LMF.

There was a large hospital for mental patients located there a long time before the war.

Horton Emergency Medical Services Hospital (Epsom) was indeed an mental institution in the interwar period, but during WW2, it was taken over as a general military hospital.
