    Alex,

    I thank you for that.

I have AUS403366 Sgt John Dudley NEWICK RAAF, of No.213 Sqn, being jumped by 5 Me109Fs when taking off from LG172, on 27-7-1942, shot down and killed. Alan Storr has Newick on Hurricane BN539!

See also: Fighters over the Desert/Shores & Ring. p.153.

Further research required on this one.

    Col,

213 Sqn lost Hurricane IIC BP197 on 27-7-1942; shot down by Bf109s over LG172.

    Henk,

Problem is, 526954 W/O Robert Joseph WALLACE RAF, of 213 Sqn, was shot down and baled out during the same action. He survived, only to be shot down and killed on 3-8-1942 (his promotion to P/O [49696] had'nt been gazetted).

    Col,

WALLACE must have been on Hurricane IIC BP180 of 213 Sqn; 27-7-1942 damaged by Bf 109 and abandoned.

    At your service !

    Henk,

BN539 looks decidedly shaky. I think I'll run with BP197 for Newick.

    Thanks,

    Col.

    Col,
WALLACE's death on 3-8-1942 must have have been on an escort mission on Hurricane BP331.
