Default When was Gilze-Rijen taken backfrom the Luftwaffe?

    Hi
Can anyone one give me date that Gilze-Rijen was taken tack from German hands? How soon after was it fit to use by the RAF?

    Many thanks in advance. Motherbird.

I believe it was captured by the 1st Polish Armoured Brigade around the 28th October 1944.
The first aircraft to land there after the recpture where some Dakotas and Ansons on 17th November.
The first RAF Squadron arrived on 23 November 1944 (35(Recce)Wing)

    Andy,
The first aircraft to land on Gilze-Rijen was an Auster of 658 AOP Sqn 30-10-1944 to inspect the base and see what work had to be done !
On the market is a wonderful book "Vliegvelden in Oorlogstijd" (ISBN 978-90-8506-823-5), Boom Uitgevers, Pieter Mastebroekweg 5, 7942 JZ Meppel, Netherlands (Tel. ++31 522 237555). In the Dutch language, large format, hard cover, excellent pictures and drawings.

    Henk.
