Default Handley-Page Hampden AE200, coded PL-?

    Hello,
My english friend told me that his grandfather was the pilot of Hampden AE200, crashed on 26th of March 1942 nearby Vliesland, Holland.
Crew: Sgt D.Towler KIA Sgt E.F.Penlington KIA Sgt J.Burns KIA Sgt W.L.L.Woodford KIA
I found a couple of information on the CWGC homepage and at lostbombers.
Does anybody know further information about this crash?
Thanks a lot for your help.
    Tom

I draw your attention to the board policy on information from LostBombers.

It is posted as a sticky at the top of each forum index page.

    Dear Tom
The Hampden File by Harry Moyle lists the information you gave and also that AE200 was shot down by a night fighter off Vlieland while minelaying in the Frisians.
May I suggest your friend writes to the RAF Museum at Hendon and the RAF Air Historical Branch. Next of kin permission would help with the AHB.
    Happy hunting
    James

Chorley in Bomber Command Losses (Vol.3, page53) lists it simply as "Lost without trace" on a mining operation.

AE200 was shot down by Oberfeldwebel Paul Gildner from 5./NJG 2 at 22.30 hrs. It was Gildners 28th victory.
