Default Serial lost Spitfire 27th April 1942

    Dear all,

On 27th April 1942 Sgt Zdenek Kothera of 124 Squadron was shot down in his Spitfire over the coast of NW France.
The ORB lists the serial of his Spitfire as AA761, obviously an error as this Spitfire was lost on 13th March 1942.

W3758 was suggested in the past as being the correct serial, however this was the Spitfire of F/Sgt Larcher, lost the same date.

Hope someone may have a clue, preferably primary sources such as aircraft loss or movement cards, which reveil the identity of the lost Spitfire.

Thanks in advance for the made efforts,
    Hans Nauta

    Hi Hans,

I have in my DB aslo W3758.

I think Fairlop may help to solve this issue.

I agree with you, I just say what I have...
    But for the other possibilioty:

    BL918 Vb CBAF M45 12MU 11-2-42 124S 14-3-42 CE ops 27-4-42 SOC recat B 13-10-42 288S 8-2-45 SOC 14-9-45

From Spitfire production list - looks a litle bit strange...

    Hello Paul and Pavel,

Thanks for your replies. I'm already in contact with Michal about this matter.
Problem is that no serial seems to match with this loss. Apperently some mistakes were made in the records and this might be a process of filtering out the possibilities.

Nor W3748 or BL918 seem to match...

    Regards,
    Hans
