Default Whitley combat with Ju88 20/12/42

Can anyone shed any light on this from Luftwaffe records? I've already posted it over on the FlyPast forum.

Whitley BD678 of 612 Sqn was attacked by a Ju88 whilst on patrol on 20 December 1942. The second pilot was injured.

This was a coastal command aircraft operating from Wick so would have taken place over the North Sea somewhere.

I'm just wondering if any damage was inflicated on the Ju88?

Does anyone know if the National Archives holds combat/intelligence reports from these encounters?

    Hello,

There's a reference on the online catalogue for combat reports from No. 612 Squadron, in AIR 50/319

    http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/displaycataloguedetails.asp?CATID=2540115&CATLN=6& Highlight=%2C612&accessmethod=0

But from the summary, it only covers July 1940. Not sure the catalogue is accurate.

Have you checked the Squadron's ORB ? It's in AIR 27/2114 for the year 1942. No appendice quoted.

Otherwise I'd suggest checking at an upper level, like Wing / Group / Command, which also may have some reports.

According the the Luftwaffe Nordic loss list available there http://www.rafandluftwaffe.info/ or there http://www.luftwaffe.no/SIG/Losses/Losses.html, no German aircraft based in Norway or Denmark was lost or ever damaged on 20 December 1942.

These lists do not cover units coming from Germany and Netherlands, that may also have operated off Scotland.

For Luftwaffe losses, you should post your query on the TOCH forum: http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/forumdisplay.php?f=8
