Default to learn to fly on a new aircraft

    Hello,

The Master Bomber or Controller ( as called in 5 Group) used often Lancaster or Mosquito.
What was the way for them to learn to fly on a new aircraft like the Mosquito for example ?
Firstly, did they had to ask to their C/O the permission ?
From what I found until now, it seems they only asked to have one or two lift on a Mossie, with a qualified pilot, and it was done ...

I think that the normal way would have been to go to a Mosquito Training Unit, but apparently they had no time to do this ...or they were reluctant to do it .

What do you think, or what did you hear about this ?

I have four pilots who did this:
    W/C J R Jeudwine , W/C John Simpson, W/C Charles Owen and W/C Guy Gibson ...
All these "hight hats" could do this on their owns ??

Only Gibson was victim of the new toy ( it seems ...).
