Default F/L Charles Peter Dovey Price. DFC 1940. Killed 1941

    Hi,

I am a new member form Australia.

I was looking for a photograph of F/L Price. I'm not sure were to start looking. He flew with 44 and 106 Sqd.
Also the last 5 operations in his log book he just wrote 'Operations'. Would anybody know what they were? The dates were 15/5/41, 14/8/41, 16/8/41, 25/8/41. He went missing searching for a lost plane on 8/11/41.
I have his DFC, ACE group of 3 and log book.

    Many thanks

    Hi
Bomber Command War Diaries, edited by Middlebrook and Everitt gives the following ops for the dates you give, they would be applicable if he was with 44 or 106 Sqns or 97 Sqn which flew Hampdens at that period
    15/5/41- Gelsenkirchen
    14/8/41-Brunswick
    16/8/41-Dusseldorf
    25/8/41-Dusseldorf.
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission site records his loss on 7/11/41 but gives his unit as 97 Sqn which seems to have used both Hampdens and Manchesters at the time prior to getting Lancasters the following year(C G Jefford-RAF Squadrons). His Log book should give a/c types and possibly Sqn. Both Hampdens and Manchesters were raiding Cologne on 7/11/41/and many assorted a/c were also carrying out "Rover" raids to Essen and other Ruhr towns ,he could have been searching for someone missing from any of this activity but not involved in it himself.
    Regards
    Dick

According to the Wartime Memories Project he was based at RAF Coningsby and (same as the CWGC mentions) belonged to 97 Sqdn.
