    Default 430619 - Unaccounted airmen - 19-6-1943

    What were the places of death registration for:

    A - Died on active service:
    AC2 Charles H.G. CHICK - 1831978.

    B - Not found in Flight Global:
    AC2 Ronald PARTINGTON - 1120374;
    S/Ldr Theodore J. WEST - 8186 - age 49, and
    Sgt James WILSON - 1365308.

    C - Also looking for info of:
    Cpl Harry W. BAILEY - 1274261 - 172 Sqn (Chivenor, Devon), commemorated on Panel 171 of the Runnymede Memorial, but whose name was found in Casualty Communiqué 375 [Flight 20-4-1944] as DOAS.

    D - Proposed aircraft losses:
    Magister I - L8200 - ATA - crashed in forced landing Shillington, Bedfordshire.
    Spitfire IIA - P8037 - CGS - crashed in forced landing Gravel Bank Farm, Magdalen, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire.
    Beaufort I - EK969 - 5 (C)OTU - crashed on landing Long Kesh, Co. Down.

    It is known that on this date at approx. 1300 hrs an explosion occurred on a bomb dump at Snaith, Yorkshire; sofar I've the names of 18 casualties, 9 of them commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial and all assigned to 51 Sqn (Names on Runnymede marked[*]).

    The Runnymede men are all on Cas Comm 340, but are registered dead, they are not missing from the death register.

    Checked that none of the other names from the 299 and 340 Cas Comm's are on the Goole register.

    Thanks Col, WEST indeed was twice in my files. Deleted entry for 19-6-1943. S/Ldr West died 19-9-1942 of a heart failure in Bangor Hospital, Lyshall, West Lothian.

    Hello

    Sgt James Frederick WILSON - 1365308 (note middle name on CWGC) - the Statutory Deaths Register on the Scotland's People website records that he died at 4.30 a.m. at the R.A.F. General Hospital, Lochnaw, Leswalt, Wigtonshire, due to tubercular meningitis, from which he had been suffering for 19 days.

    Cpl Bailey of 172 Sqn is noted in the ORB Summary for the month as:
    Cpl. Bailey went bathing with his wife and got into difficulties. He did not return to his wife sitting on the beach, and he is presumed drowned. The body has not been recovered as yet.
