Default Plt Off Anthony St Croix 615 Sqn

    Hi,

Air of Authority site has Plt Off Anthony St Croix Rose as lost on 11 September 1939 while a member of 615 Sqn.

I have a 615 Sqn Gladiator loss on that day. K7987 crashed during a night formation practise.

Would I be correct to assume that Plt Off Rose was the pilot of this aircraft?

    Regards,

    Alex

    Alex,
Also have his name on Gladiator K7987; crashed 1 mile N of Bletchingley, Surrey. (P/O Anthony St.C. ROSE - 90719). Have no place of death registration and this could be important to confirm the a/c crash.
    Regards,
    Henk.

    Hello,

The Squadron ORB doesn't give the serial number, only : "A/Pilot Officer A. St.C. Rose was killed in a flying accident about one mile north of Bletchingley, Surrey at approximately 22:00 hours while carrying night flying training. It's the only entry in the ORB for that day.

He was a member of 'A' flight.

    Hi Henk, Joss

Thanks for your replies, much appreciated. Hopefully someone will have the place of death registration to confirm he was the pilot.

    Joss,

Do you have the ORB for 615 Sqn? If so can you look to see if there is any info on the following three accidents. As far as I know there were no fatalities. I'm just looking for the pilots names.

11 June 1939, K7960 collided with Hurricane L1934 on landing, Biggin Hill.
2nd July 1939, K7958 engine cut and overshot landing and hit trees, Ide Hill, Kent.
21st September 1939, K8044 taxied into floodlight, Croyden.

    Thanks,

    Alex

    Hello Alex,

The pre-war years are covered with only a few entries, one page covers September 1938 to August 1939 ! No details at all about accidents and aircraft losses unfortunately.

On 21st September 1939 : "Croydon P/O J.R. Lloyd when taxying out to take-off from Croydon aerodrome in company with two other aircraft struck camouflaged landing floodlight with airscrew and starboard wing. P/O J.R. Lloyd was uninjured, aircraft slightly damaged". Again no serial number, but you have it.

    Joss
