    Default Use of Quote Function

I note the growing tendency to use the quote facility to include text from messages displayed on the same page as the new message.

The archive on this site is extensive holding copies of all post on the new and old boards going back to 25th June 2001.

Over 9 years worth of messages amounts to quite a large extended storage on a commercial server with an associated extended cost. I have just paid the renewal fee for this year.

Arbitary use of the quote function doubles the storage size of the associated message leading to a reduction of the messages that can be stored within the 100 MB storage extension.

Please use the reply function rather than reply with quote or delete the quoted text before posting.

Acceptable use is for when you want to specifically reply to a message not displayed on the current page.

I will moderate use to a point then remove consistent abusers from the board.

Thanks for pointing this out - it is more than helpful to explain what is good practice and what is not. I have to confess that we have been very lax on this subject on our own site, but your advice is more than welcome.

Thanks for letting me know about this. I am new at this but I am learning.

Thanks for pointing this out. I was doing what I had seen others do. I am new to this site and eager to do the right thing. Will pay more attention. Again thanks. Kate

So sorry - mea culpa - I`ve been mis-using it too. Won`t happen again.
