    Hello,

That's a very easy question, No. 76 Squadron flew Halifax Vs up to February 1944, and had started flying Halifax IIIs from January 1944, until April 1945. In March 1945, the Squadron received Halifax VIs, and in May exchanged them for Douglas Dakotas.

Halifax V was a RR Merlin powered version, the III and VI marks were powered by Bristol Hercules radial engines.

You'll find plenty of references on the net about these machines, and some basic details about the Squadron in RAFWEB or Bomber Command website (don't have the URLs ready at hand).

    Good luck in your research

    Default 76 Sqn Assn

I am sure that the following would love you to contact them too:
    76 Squadron H W Kirtland DFC, 125 Fairfield Avenue, Kirk Ella, Hull, East Yorkshire, HU10 7UW: tel 01482 657874
The details are from the RAF Register of Associations and they tend to keep it up to date. Please let me know if there is any problem and I will let them know..
